Consultation material for Nordbex Nybro AB (ID17273-1)
Invitation to consultation regarding an environmental permit application under the Swedish Environmental Code (Nybro).
Nordbex AB is a Swedish company developing and operating carbon-negative combined heat and power (CHP) facilities, with the ambition to support the energy transition and enable net-negative greenhouse gas outcomes. Nordbex is now planning a project in Nybro Municipality through its subsidiary Nordbex Nybro AB, focused on removing CO₂ from the atmosphere.
The planned project and permit application
Nordbex intends to apply for an environmental permit for the establishment of a new CHP plant with an installed thermal input of approximately 80 MW, including subsequent CO₂ separation. The planned location is within the Rälsen 1 planning area, east of Nybro.
Within the proposed activity, captured CO₂ will be temporarily stored on site and then, via transfer to rail at an existing combined terminal, primarily transported for permanent storage in offshore geological formations.
Consultation process and how to submit comments
As part of the permitting work, Nordbex is conducting a scoping consultation under Chapter 6 of the Swedish Environmental Code. The purpose is to gather views on the planned activity and to define the scope of the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) that will accompany the permit application.
The consultation involves the County Administrative Board, the municipality, rescue services, relevant authorities, potentially affected individuals, environmental organisations, and the public.
The main areas of potential environmental impact are currently assessed to include emissions to air, discharges to water, noise, and operational risks.
The public is invited to participate through a written consultation based on consultation material prepared by Nordbex. The consultation material is available for download.
Questions and written comments can be submitted by email to info@nordbex.com.
Please submit written comments no later than 25 April 2025.
