Nordbex appoints CEO for the Nybro project and accelerates next steps

Nybro, 25 September 2024 – Nordbex announces the appointment of Niklas Lindvall as CEO for the planned climate-positive heat and power facility in Nybro municipality. Lindvall brings extensive experience from Nybro Energi, where he has worked in project management, construction leadership, and operations—skills that will be central as the project moves into detailed planning and delivery.

With a strong track record and a well-established local contractor network, Lindvall will play a key role in preparing the build phase and setting up the foundations for long-term, efficient operations.

Strengthening delivery capacity in Nybro

Nordbex is entering a high-activity phase as the project prepares for more detailed engineering work ahead of construction. The ambition remains to start construction in autumn 2025, and preparations are underway to maintain that timeline.

Updated technical direction to support the schedule

As part of the ongoing development work, Nordbex has refined the technical approach for the Nybro project. The concept has shifted from an initial plan centred on biomass gasification to a more conventional combined heat and power (CHP) configuration, optimised for electricity generation with integrated carbon removal. Together with the recruitment of Niklas Lindvall, the updated approach is intended to strengthen execution and keep the project on track—supporting the ambition for Nybro to become one of Sweden’s early carbon-negative municipalities.

“We are in a very intensive period and are preparing for the next step, which involves more detailed engineering to get ready for construction. There are many positive developments both in the project and within Nordbex, and we look forward to sharing more news in the near term,” says Thomas Öström, CEO of Nordbex.
